New Metal Irregular #2
Ok, so the name of this post is slightly misleading, since most of these releases aren’t actually new, but they’re new to me, so fuck it.
Arsis - We Are the Nightmare

Arsis definitely have an old-school death metal vibe, none of this metalcore, post-hardcore what-the-fuck nonsense, this is straight up death. Solid technique and composition, lots of memorable licks, crisp and varied percussion. This stuff edges towards tech-death — these cats really know how to play guitar right — but avoids being technical and clever for it’s own sake. Also, loads of awesome guitar solos, which are awesome.
Animosity - Animal

Is it pure grindcore? Does it have a bit too much of death metal? Fuck knows, all I can tell is that this stuff is just deranged. Everything high-tempo, everything running as hard as possible all the time. Shouting and growling and generally being as unpleasant as possible. Recommended for fans of Pig Destroyer — not a direct comparison, but if you like PD, you’ll probably like these dudes.
The Dillinger Escape Plan - Under the Running Board

This most definitely is not a new release. This is the first recording from DEP. For me it’s notable because it shows how well-formed the band was from it’s earliest recordings. Everything we hear in their later albums is in place — the hardcore influence, guitar fireworks, mutating tempo and time codes and the general sense of fucking attacking the music. $DEITY, I love these guys.
Architect - Ghost of the Salt Water Machine

ARRRGGGGGH WE HATE EVERYTHING! LETS SHOUT ABOUT IT IN HARMONY!
Breakdown.
Ahhh, Nostalgia
I’ve been indulging myself again.
Mr eel - Graphic Archive
I had a friend ask after some of these old images, so in a few idle hours this afternoon I decided to stick the better stuff up in one place. These are non-commercial images, all done years ago at random and for fun only. It makes me dimly nostalgic to look at some of this. Some is very earnest and excited, not refined at all, but just the same it’s interesting to look back at it.
